Logan, UT - Because it is homecoming week, I thought it might be interesting to look at some interesting numbers dealing with homecoming. After looking at the homecoming numbers, I decided to look at a few attendance numbers based on years where the Aggies opened to small crowds. Hopefully some of the attendance trends can be broken this season. Remember, attendance number prior to last season were based on the "old counting" method.
Homecoming
- All-Time Homecoming Record is 47-26-2 .
- We have played San Jose State four times prior to this year for homecoming with a record of 1-3.
- Attendance for Homecoming games against San Jose State averaged 16,900.
- When playing current members of the Western Athletic Conference for homecoming we have averaged 13,706 in attendance and have a record of 6-9.
- This is the second earliest homecoming game at Romney stadium. The Aggies played Utah on September 30, 2000 for the earliest homecoming at Romney Stadium.
- This is the third earliest homecoming overall for Utah State.
Attendance Problems
- The home opener for Utah State in 2005 saw 12,408 fans in attendance.
- The last time a home opener drew less than that was 1991 when Utah State played San Jose State in front of only 12,353 fans.
- In the last 30 years there have only been six season where the Aggies have opened to fewer than 12,408 fans (there was a streak of 4 years, from 1983 to 1986, where the Aggies opened to fewer than 12,408 fans).
- In 1991, after opening to 12,353 fans, the Aggies played in front of 8,957; 9,814; and 8,217 for their remaining home games.
- The Aggies have only once (Boise State was the only exception, 16,476 for that game in 1983), not counting games against BYU or Utah, played a home game in front of a crowd larger than 12,355 after opening the season to fewer than the crowd for this year's home opener since 1970 (out of 11 seasons during that time period).
- Based on past numbers, the attendance for the remaining home games this season doesn't look promising.
