LOGAN, Utah – The Lady Aggies improved upon their last outing with Boise State, who beat USU 70-38 earlier this year, but still lost at home on Thursday to the Broncos 72-55.
Jessica Freeman recorded her third double-double in five games, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Taylor Richards added 11 points in the Aggie effort with 6 assists.
The game was defined by a few key scoring runs by both teams, with BSU getting the upper hand. The sequence fell Utah State’s way as the Lady Aggies ran out to a 6-0 in just a few minutes. Boise State went on a run of their own keeping Utah State scoreless for nearly the next six minutes while scoring 14 of their own for a score of 14-6 with 10:38 left until the half.
Utah State came as close as within two points by capitalizing on their free throws, but then let it slip and were down 31-24 at half.
To open the second half the Broncos went on an 11-2 run expanding their lead to 42-26. Once BSU extended the lead to 20 points the lead stayed around that point for the remainder.
A bright spot for USU came with 5:00 to play when Danyelle Snelgro came up with a steal at midcourt. As she drove down the lane she found Richards, who was double-teamed, and she played a quick pass into Freeman who went up strong for the basket.
The loss takes Utah State’s record down to 3-20 overall and 2-11 in conference play. The Aggies play at the Spectrum one last time this season on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., as they host Nevada. It’s the first of two games that day as the men take the court to take on Nevada as well immediately following the women’s match up.
