LOGAN, Utah – With first place in the WAC on the line, the Utah State Aggies got
steam rolled by the 25 th ranked Nevada Wolf Pack 74-57 at the Spectrum on
Saturday night.
In their previous match up this season the Aggies beat the Wolf Pack 59-53 in
Reno on January 23 rd. It was the last time Nevada lost. They arrived in Logan
riding an eight game winning streak and prepared to keep their top spot in the WAC.
Jaycee Carroll went 7 for 19, leading the Aggies with 17 points. Cass Matheus was
the only other Aggie with points in the double digits – he had 10. Nate Harris, Durrall
Peterson, and Chaz Spicer each tallied 9 for the cause. Harris muscled 10 boards.
As a team Utah State shot a dismal 32.4%. Couple that stat with the fact that the Aggie defense allowed Marcelus Kemp to score 26 points and Nick Fazekas to add 23 to Nevada’s total and you have a recipe for disaster for the Aggies.
Much like the Northwestern State game seven days previous, the Ags took a 13-point deficit into half time. The only difference is that deficit never went away. As the gap widened, the USU student section got quieter until the majority stood in silence – watching their Aggies lose.

The loss drops Utah State from second to a tie for third place (also tied for third are Hawai’i and Louisiana Tech), a half game behind New Mexico State who beat Idaho tonight in Moscow 66-50. New Mexico State then has one more game as they travel to Hawai’i next week.
The Aggies close out the regular season with two more games at home before they head to Reno for the WAC tournament. USU will host Fresno State on March 2 nd and San Jose State March 4 th. Both games are slated to tip-off at 7:05 pm.
